Why Do Most People Tend To Put Off Doing Important Things Now?
Proverbs 27:1 - Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
An interesting question but an easy answer. It's Procrastination. We all know that word, but do we understand the definition? "Procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline."
Such a true definition. We've all fallen victim to this. I fell victim to this as well. Be honest guys, How many times has someone spoken to you about making a change NOW and you said "I will start from tomorrow". How many times you felt you needed to call a certain person then you say " Gosh, I will call them tomorrow, too busy now." Or how about this one, How many times has someone reached out to you to arrange an appointment with you in order to help secure yours and your family's financial future and you respond " Can I reschedule for next week or another time? I have other plans this week." Have you heard these before? I sure have.

The truth is , The pleasure principle (is the instinctual seeking of pleasure and avoiding of pain in order to satisfy biological and psychological needs.) may be responsible for procrastination as one may prefer to avoid negative emotions, and to delay stressful tasks. I've seen this first hand when trying to meet with clients. No one wants the uncomfortable feeling of talking about their financial situation or financial goals. People are afraid they will have to make a total lifestyle change. I understand these feelings that come up. I had them before too. However, I like to ask the question though , " would you rather stay in your procrastination bubble? The bubble that may result in stress, a sense of guilt and crisis, and severe loss of personal productivity, as well as social disapproval for not meeting responsibilities or commitments ? or would you rather remove all your negative emotions NOW, get the help you need and make a change TODAY? Choice is yours.
The problem is, we live our lives with the belief we have TIME. Time is on our side right? Reality check, WRONG. If you are living your life this way, you are living a dangerous lifestyle, a risky one I might add. I used to live like that until I had a reality check on March 16th, 2003. This was me below.
Leaving church that Sunday morning, taking a nice cool drive home for my Sunday lunch. It was a nice, warm, sunny day. Listening to some music with two of my close friends in the car with me. And just in a split second, without any time to react, life flashed before our eyes. We were hit head on by an on-coming vehicle, a speeding van, which overtook the vehicle in front of them and they didn't see us coming in the opposite direction.
Did I know this was going to happen today? If this were you, would you have known this would happen? How about tomorrow, do you know what will happen tomorrow? Do you know what will happen to any of your family members tomorrow?
It's time to wake up. Stop procrastinating. Get out of this bubble folks.
Maximize the time you have now.
Be Blessed All.
